Salem Keizer District School Board Meeting
November 12, 2013
Thank you to all who joined us at the Salem Keizer District School Board Meeting this past Tuesday, November 12th. The School Board is deliberating whether to give Sequoia Montessori a charter to operate a school next year, and they will vote on December 10th. If you are interested in a public school Montessori choice, please send a quick email explaining why you support a public Montessori school to the entire School Board care of:
We are hopeful for the addition of Sequoia Montessori School this time around, but we still need your help! Please continue to educate the community about the benefits of adding a charter Montessori school to the Salem Keizer district, and spread the word about Sequoia Montessori School!
Sequoia Montessori School is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, currently proposing to open an Oregon Public Charter School to serve elementary students in the Salem-Keizer Public Schools, School District 24J.
The school may potentially open in the fall 2014, pending the outcome of a hearing with the Salem Keizer School Board. The school will initially offer two blended classrooms serving students in grades 1-3. The school will expand in the second year to three classrooms and add upper elementary grades as the school matures. Eventually Sequoia will serve 90 children in grades 1-5.
Sequoia Montessori School’s curriculum aligns with state and district standards, and is based on proven models developed by other Montessori public charter schools. Enrollment will be offered through lottery, ensuring a fair process for all of those who are interested in attending.
OUR MISSION is to provide an authentic and nurturing Montessori education to develop creative, inquisitive minds.
